Gs is the ability to quickly and efficiently perform simple cognitive tasks.

Gs affects the development of the following academic skills:
  • Automatization of skills (math facts, sight words, etc.)
  • Written expression, especially writing fluency
  • Basic reading skills, especially decoding
  • Basic math skills
  • Math reasoning skills

Some strategies to improve Gs:

  • Frequent practice of important facts, to the point of over-learning
  • Use a timer and set goals for student to complete tasks within certain time frame

Academic instructional strategies that may be helpful for students who are weak in Gs:
  • Self-monitoring to increase math fluency
  • Incremental rehearsal of math facts
  • Increase reading fluency
